ANNOUNCEMENT : REVIEW OF THE 2001 NATIONAL HIV AND AIDS POLICY

1.0 Introduction.

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania through the commission for AIDS (TACAIDS) is hereby announcing that the review of the National HIV and AIDS policy has started. Receiving of untargeted input will continue from November 1st to December 15th 2009. The government envisages that the final policy should be completed by mid March 2010. The review of the national policy comes to take into consideration the changes (demographic, technological, economic and socio-cultural) since the policy was developed in 2001. Such development includes drivers of epidemic, access to ARVs, HIV vaccination and compliance with other government directives for all government policies.

2.0 The consultation process:
The government wants to undertake comprehensive public consultation to ensure that different sections of community have opportunity to input into the reviewed policy. To this end the government calls for individuals, the civil society including community groups and Faith-based organizations, public institutions, Private sector, PLHIV groups, and other interested stakeholders (national and international) to provide their views in accordance, but not limited to the following issues:

1. What are the policy issues that have worked well and are still relevant and should continue?
2. What are the issues in the HIV policy that have fallen out of context and should not be included in the next HIV policy?
3. What issues that are in the HIV policy that need to be reviewed and recasted to suit the current contexts? Please give recommendations on this aspect.
4. What issues that were not included in the 2001 HIV policy that should be included in the reviewed HIV policy?

Individuals and Groups are encouraged to engage with the above issues and make submission to the Executive Chairman for TACAIDS. For those who have access to internet they can do online submission through TACAIDS website www.tacaids.go.tz.
